"Concerning the reconstruction of the temple", the anonymous author of "Secret undertakings of the freemasons" (1787) explains: "They give the order to the fellow crafts, to collect all the fragments to process them, and to carve once again, in order to rebuild the temple out of the workpieces of which it had existed before and which had been picked up from its decayed walls."
